The Welcome Centre for Immigrants was established on the basis of a unique study conducted by Dr. Laura Ho - “Voices from the Woods” in 1987, initiated by the Indo-Canadian Women’s Association and sponsored by Alberta Advanced Education and Career Development.

Welcome Centre for Immigrant (WCI) is an umbrella organization designed to guide and support immigrants through the tapestry of information and resources available in Edmonton.  It serves as a one-stop service under one roof for all required information related to settlement and employment sector in the region of Edmonton. Established in 1997 to serve newcomers in south Edmonton region, WCI was formerly known as Mill woods Welcome Centre for Immigrants.

Since its inception, WCI has offered guidance and advocacy on employment, settlement and strengthening communities in south Edmonton. Our cross cultural staff members and volunteers, fluent in Asian, European and African languages help immigrants to integrate in the Canadian mosaic seamlessly. So far, WCI has provided services to more than 14000 New comers in their settlement and integration since its inception.

We are funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Services are free to immigrants.
